Gastronomic Tour in Transylvanian Highlands

Meeting point: in the lobby of your hotel / pension

Route: Sighişoara – Țopa – Criț – Saschiz  – Sighişoara

The program of the tour:

To discover the flavor and the taste of a traditional fare from the land of Transylvania, we propose a gastronomic tour in three locations, where we can savour dishes from the local cuisine.

 

The first stop we will have at the Ecological  Farm in Țopa, where we taste a range of cheese products in particularly.

The second stop is in Crit, at the household of the Anghel family, here we taste meat fare in specially.

The last stop will be in Saschiz village, where our hosts Anca and Charlie will invite us to enjoy their confitures and jams.

Of course, everything will be seasoned with traditional drinks of Transylvania, “palinca” and local wine.

Handcraft  and Traditions in Szeklerland

Meeting point: in the lobby of your hotel / pension

Route: Tour Sighişoara – Corund – Sighişoara

The program of the tour:

Corund promenade

Deep knowledge tour of handcrafts with horse drawn cart in Corund. We visit the unique tinder fungus processing workshop, pottery workshop, traditional weaver and the local village museum. Be initiated in the traditional handcrafts by the artisans!

Time -travel on  the  volcanic plateau

Minibus (or combined minibus + horse drawn cart) tour to the Fântâna Brazilor peat bogs educational trail, then open air taste of homemade jams and natural syrups. Visit to a traditional self-sufficient farm for home-made tasting.

Experimental handcraft workshop

Assisted by a professional potter, the visitors can try the pottering on traditional or electrical potter’s wheel. They have the opportunity to model, to press or to paint their first ceramic piece of art, and to take them home.

Exerience and craftsmen in Szeklerland

Departure from Sighisoara at 9:00

SALT EXPERIENCE

Wi will begin our experience in the Szeklerland in Praid at 10:00, enjoining a short walk to the  Salt Canyon. This was formed due to human activity: the remaining diggings after the salt mining, were filled with rainwater that dissolved the salt, expanding them. They have turned into real chains of lakes. In the valley of the lakes the salt canyon formed, deepened by the Corund creek.

In case of bad weather could be included in the program a the visit of the salt mine in Praid.

Duration: 1 – 1 hour 30 min.

EXPERIMENTAL DO-IT-YOURSELF ARAGONITE GRINDING

Departure from Praid at 12:00.

Assisted by a professional, you will understand the behaviour of the Corund Aragonite.

You can enjoy a do-it-yourself grinding activity where this layered, translucid rock became a semiprecious stone by your own hand.

Includes the lesson about the 13 steps of hand grinding and polish the semipretious stone Aragonite. A rugged piece of rock is going to transform in your hands to a nice shining, multilayered semiprecious stone.It includes all the consumabiles, the lessons, your time, our time and the rock.

Duration: 1 – 2  hours.

TIME -TRAVEL ON  THE  VOLCANIC PLATEAU

Departure at 13:30

Horse drawn cart tour to the Fântâna Brazilor peat bogs educational trail, then open air taste of homemade jams and natural syrups. Visit to a traditional self-sufficient farm for home-made picnic. Includes transport, entrance fee in protected area, guiding, traditional picnic, mineral water/ bilberry brandy shots.

EXPERIMENTAL HANDICRAFT WORKSHOP

Departure at 15:30 – 16:00

Assisted by a professional potter, the visitors can try the pottering on traditional or electrical potter’s wheel. They have the opportunity to model, to press or to paint their first ceramic piece of art.

Duration: 15-20 minutes / person.

Return to Sighișoara at 19:00

Handcraft and Horse Riding in Apoş

Meeting point: in the lobby of your hotel / pension

Route: Tour Sighişoara – Apoş – Sighişoara

Itinerary:

Visits to traditional local bricks & tiles producer

See bricks & tiles local producers with horse wagon ride. The project was sponsored and inaugurated by HRH Prince Charles. The visitors can have built their own tile.Visit to charcoal burners by horse and cart ride approx. 1 hour.  Visit to a shepherd: sheep milking and cheese tasting by horse and cart ride approx. 1 hour. Traditional cheese can be purchased directly from the shepherd.

The Pottery, Salt Mine and Urban Life tour

Meeting point: in the lobby of your hotel / pension

Route: Tour Sighişoara – Corund – Praid  – Târgu Mureş – Sighişoara

Itinerary:

This tour starts from the transylvanian “burg” Sighişoara, generic beeing part of “Saxon Land”. We will have our first stop in ”Szekler Land”, in Corund, in one of the well known villages of ceramic tradition in Romania. After our visit at the potter, we continue towards North, stopp in Praid’s salt mine, one of the oldest salt explorer in Transylvania. Following our route we arrive in  Târgu Mureş, changing the register and the epoch. Here the urban center is representative for Hungarian urban culture of the end of 19th and begin of 20th century. Examplary for it is the Culture Palace, the first public library – the Teleki Library. Afterwards we drive back to Sighişoara.

The Music and Wine tour

Meeting point: in the lobby of your hotel / pension

Route: Tour Sighişoara – Târgu Mureş- Reghin – Batoş – Sighişoara

Itinerary:

This tour starts from Sighişoara, following our route we arrive in  Târgu Mureş. We will visit the Culture Palace, the first public library – the Teleki Library. Continuing towards North, we arrive to Reghin, a small, neat town, with saxon origin, stopping at a master luthier. This handicraft have been very well preserved. Our tour continues in the vineyard and Crama in Batoş, having the opportunity to taste the fines local vine . In the late afternoon we will drive back to Sighişoara.

On the top of Transylvania:Transfăgărăşan Highway

Route: Sighişoara – Cârţa – Transfăgărăşan Road – Avrig – Nucet – Sighişoara (available only  between 1st of Juy – 31st   of October)

Itinerary:

We leave the town of Sighişoara. Our first stop is in Cârţa, where you will have the possibility to admire the Cistercian influence in the ruins of the monastery in Cârţa. Then we turn on to the road 7C, the Transfăgăraşan Highway, which is one of the most impressive mountain roads in Europe, located between the two highest mountains of Romania. We continue our route to Avrig where is the baroque summer residence of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, the Governor of Transylvania. The day continues in Nucet, with enjoying fresh and natural products coming from a local family (optional). Drive back to Sighişoara.
